Organization Membership

Overview

When someone signs up with an email address that matches your company's domain (e.g. @acme.com), Jack & Jill can either let them join your team automatically or require an admin to approve them first.

This is controlled by a single setting that org admins can change at any time.

How people join

There are two modes:

  • Auto-join - anyone with your company email can sign up and they're on the team. No admin action needed.
  • Require approval - they can sign up and request access, but an admin has to approve them first.

Auto-join is the default for all new organizations.

Auto-join

When auto-join is on:

  1. Someone signs up with an @acme.com email
  2. They're automatically added to your organization
  3. They see a "Join [Company]?" prompt and click to confirm
  4. They're in - they can see public roles and start working immediately
  5. Admins get notified via email that someone joined

This is the simplest setup and works well for most teams. New hires and colleagues get access without anyone having to do anything.

Require approval

When approval is required:

  1. Someone signs up with an @acme.com email
  2. They see a "Request access to [Company]?" prompt
  3. They submit the request
  4. All org admins get notified via email that someone is waiting to join
  5. An admin goes to Team → Requests tab and clicks Approve or Decline
  6. If approved, the person gets notified via email and can start using the app

This is useful when you want to control exactly who joins - for example, if your domain is shared across subsidiaries, or you want to vet people before they see your roles.

Changing the mode

Go to Team in the sidebar and click the settings icon (gear) in the top right. You'll see:

  • Auto-join - anyone with your company email joins automatically on signup
  • Require approval - they can request access, but an admin has to say yes

Pick the one you want. The change takes effect immediately. Only org admins can change this setting.

FAQ

What's the default? Auto-join is enabled for all new organizations.

Can I switch between modes? Yes, at any time. Switching doesn't affect people who are already on the team.

What happens to pending requests if I switch to auto-join? Existing requests stay in the Requests tab. You can still approve or decline them, or new signups will just join automatically going forward.

Who can approve requests? Org admins only.

What if my company doesn't have a verified domain? The enrollment mode setting won't appear. Domain verification happens automatically when your team is created with a corporate email.

Does this affect people invited directly? No. Direct invitations bypass the enrollment mode entirely - the invited person joins regardless of the setting.
