As the first engineering hire at Penelope Health Inc., you will build the core engine that converts complex payer policies into deterministic computable contracts. You will architect high-throughput ingestion systems and low-latency APIs, bridging the gap between LLM extraction and formal logic to eliminate the need for traditional healthcare revenue cycle management.

At Penelope our core mission is to radically reduce healthcare administrative spend. We do this by providing an auditable and computable contract between insurance companies and patients/doctors. This means a patient knows in real-time whether a certain procedure is covered by insurance and for how much. They can pay their share at the time of care and by the time they leave the doctor’s office, all financials have been resolved in the background.

What you will do

  • Design and scale an ingestion engine tracking coverage policies across 3,000+ payers using a sophisticated blend of web scraping and LLM-powered extraction.
  • Build the representation layer that converts medical necessity criteria into computable contracts using formal logic, CQL, and deterministic evaluation frameworks.
  • Architect and own production-grade API and MCP endpoints, ensuring high accuracy and low latency for AI agents querying coverage rules at scale.
