Role overview
As a Founding Engineer at Valteros, you will build Large Behavioural Models (LBMs) that predict population-scale human behavior. You will own a critical technical workstream—spanning model training, simulation engines, or decision-maker interfaces—to ship products for defense and government clients. This is a high-impact role at a £2M pre-seed AI research neolab in Oxford.

NATO has recognised cognitive security as an emerging domain of conflict, and artificial intelligence and online polarisation are making it harder to counter every year. Our solution: we build multi-agents modelling platforms to simulate the impact of these threats.
We closed a £2M pre-seed round in June.
What you will do
- Ship a functional product for a paying pilot customer within your first 90 days, moving from initial concept to real-world deployment by December.
- Lead the development of either the behavioural model, a multi-agent simulation engine, or the decision-maker product surfaces used for strategic crisis response.
- Contribute defensible data to preregistered public benchmarks and walk investors through your part of the system during technical diligence for the upcoming funding round.
Who this is a fit for
- Proven track record of building and shipping complex end-to-end systems, whether that is a new model class, a high-scale simulation engine, or data-intensive products.
- Technical depth in Python, PyTorch, or TypeScript, with a rigour-first mindset focused on calibration, uncertainty, and reproducibility in behavioural science or psychometrics.
- Founding mindset ready to thrive in ambiguity, ship without hand-holding, and work five days a week on-site at the ARC Oxford campus.
