Join NODI Energy as a Founding Hardware Engineer to lead the design and production of our home battery systems. You’ll own the hardware lifecycle from system-level design to large-scale manufacturing, working directly with founders to scale a product already in the field. This is a 0-to-1 opportunity to define how grid-native hardware is built.

NODI Energy is a Y Combinator-backed energy tech company building the physical layer of the distributed grid. Our first product is a modular plug-in battery that ships directly to customers, deploys in minutes, and requires no electrician, rewiring, or planning approval. NODI starts from a simple belief: the grid crisis will not be solved by software alone. It requires building in atoms — hardware that can be manufactured, shipped, plugged in, controlled, and aggregated into real dispatchable capacity. We begin with renters, homes, and SMEs locked out of traditional storage, then turn every deployed unit into part of a virtual power network. Tesla Powerwall installs a battery in a house. NODI builds grid capacity from the wall socket up.
What you will do
- Lead the electrical and system-level design of the plug-in home battery and edge orchestration device, optimizing for reliability and field performance.
- Drive the transition from small-batch prototypes to repeatable mass production by managing contract manufacturers, component sourcing, and BOM optimization.
- Own the path to certification and compliance, ensuring hardware meets safety, grid-connection, and electrical standards for deployment across UK and EU markets.
Who this is a fit for
- Proven track record in electrical or electronics engineering, having successfully taken a physical product from prototype through to manufacturing at scale.
- Deep technical expertise in battery systems, power electronics, or energy hardware such as BMS, inverters, and chargers.
- Hands-on, high-ownership mindset with the ability to navigate ambiguity and build rigorous testing frameworks without established legacy processes.
