As a Games Engineer at Peace, you will bridge creative vision and technical execution to build responsive play systems for children. You’ll own the development of game rules, state machines, and physical mechanics, transforming narrative concepts into interactive experiences that encourage physical adventure over screen time in a high-impact, 0-to-1 environment.

Role overview
Peace is building a real-world play platform. It turns homes, gardens and neighborhoods into AI-powered story worlds that children physically step into and play in. Off screens, into adventures.
Our mission is to ensure that we raise the next generation to be peaceful and creative. We believe the way to do that is to re-embrace play, which has become a lost art for two generations; robbed by big tech and screens.
Our wedge product launching next year will be screenless devices (magic buds) that live in the home and transform it into an immersive experience where a child can play and unleash their creativity.
We are a very tight team led by a successful, exited entrepreneur and joined by an exceptional, experienced team including early engineering talent from Founders Capital-backed Grabango + creative talent with credentials some of the world’s most incredibly produced performances: Star Wars, Marvel, and War Horse.
Our pre-seed was led by Local Globe and Angels include Founders from Entrepreneur First, Calm, and Twitch.
What you will do
- Design and build core play systems including game state, session logic, progression, and reward mechanics tailored for children aged 5–11.
- Develop complex character behaviors using state machines and behavior trees, integrating scripted systems with LLM-driven character controls.
- Implement physical game mechanics that utilize real-world sensor data to make the play environment respond dynamically to player movement.
Who this is a fit for
- Proven experience in gameplay or systems engineering for shipped games, with a focus on loops, pacing, and balancing rewards.
- Strong proficiency in engine-agnostic programming, whether in Unity/C#, Unreal/C++, Godot, or Python/TypeScript, with a focus on rapid prototyping.
- A scrappy, 0-to-1 mindset comfortable with ambiguity and excited by the challenge of inventing an entirely new category of play.
Why this role is remarkable
- Work on a pioneering screenless play platform designed to re-embrace physical play for children, moving the next generation away from traditional digital screens.
- Join an elite founding team with backgrounds from Google, Grabango, and legendary creative productions like Star Wars, Marvel, and War Horse.
- Benefit from strong early-stage momentum with backing from Local Globe and founders of Calm, Twitch, and Entrepreneur First.
