As Hardware Engineering Lead, you will own the mechanical design and delivery of AUAR’s robotic MicroFactory. Working at the systems level, you’ll lead a team to evolve these machines from prototypes to robust, scalable production systems. You’ll design complex mechanisms, integrate industrial robots, and ensure reliable performance on real-world construction sites.
Hardware Engineering Lead at AUAR
AUAR is redefining how we build homes by deploying robotic MicroFactories directly to construction sites on demand. They are searching for a Hardware Engineering Lead to own the mechanical design and scalability of these complex automated machines, taking them from prototype to global deployment. Based in a massive 11,000 sq ft London R&D facility, you will lead a talented team of engineers while remaining hands-on with industrial robots and physical AI.

Role overview
Automated Architecture (AUAR) is a construction technology company that develops AI-powered design-to-manufacturing software, deployable robotic micro-factories, and modular systems to automate the production of sustainable, low-carbon timber housing. It partners with homebuilders and manufacturers via a ‘No Capex’ Manufacture-as-a-Service model to enable distributed manufacturing of net-zero homes, targeting mass adoption of timber construction and automation.
What you will do
- Own the end-to-end mechanical design and product maturity of the MicroFactory, including complex mechanisms, end effectors, and production-grade tooling.
- Integrate industrial robots into reliable production systems, managing critical trade-offs between mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and safety domains across the whole machine.
- Lead and mentor a hardware team while remaining hands-on in the workshop, driving CAD management practices and raising the standard for engineering execution.
Who this is a fit for
- You have substantial experience designing complex automated machines and taking them from concept to high-volume working hardware in production environments.
- You possess deep expertise in mechanical design, including structures and actuated systems, with a strong understanding of how to design for real-world material tolerances.
- You are a systems thinker with a background in industrial automation or robotics who thrives in high-autonomy environments and stays close to the physical hardware.
Why this role is remarkable
- You will design the very machines that build homes, tackling the global housing crisis by making construction faster, more affordable, and carbon-negative.
- AUAR is a high-growth Series A startup backed by Planet A Ventures, operating from a state-of-the-art 11,000 sq ft demonstration facility in London E17.
- This is a rare opportunity to lead hardware at the intersection of physical AI and robotics, seeing your designs move from CAD to real-world deployment.
