Role overview

You will own the entire hardware lifecycle, from architecture and prototyping to manufacturing in Shenzhen. This hands-on leadership role involves building the initial product and hiring your future team. Working alongside world-class MIT and Oxford faculty, you’ll deploy ocean infrastructure in remote locations and present at international delegations, turning proven product-market fit into global scale.

Samudra Oceans Limited (SamudraOceans) is a London-based blue-tech and climate-tech company building an end-to-end ocean intelligence platform that combines marine-edge robotics, IoT sensing, and AI to deliver real-time, scalable monitoring of coastal and offshore environments.[1][6] Its systems use autonomous, ocean-grade hardware and static monitoring robots equipped with advanced sensors and cameras to continuously measure over 15 ocean parameters such as temperature, salinity, pH, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, and biodiversity, turning ocean data into actionable insights for ports, harbours, aquaculture, and marine conservation.[1][6][12] The company focuses on scaling sustainable, mega-scale seaweed farming and traceable blue-carbon projects, using robotics and AI to enhance seaweed farm efficiency, predict yield, detect pathogens, and monitor nutrient and acidity levels, thereby supporting coastal communities, biodiversity, and the wider blue economy.[4][7][8][12][13] Through AI-powered analytics and machine learning models trained on proprietary time-series data, Samudra Oceans provides predictive alerts for storms, biofouling, environmental compliance, and operational risks, along with real-time dashboards, API access, and automated reporting so enterprises can integrate ocean intelligence into operations, risk models, and decision-making workflows.[1][6][8][12] Operating projects in the UK, Scotland, Jamaica and expanding to India and Sri Lanka, the company positions the ocean as a key pathway for climate action and aims to remove large-scale atmospheric carbon via seaweed-based blue carbon initiatives.[7][12][13]

What you will do

  • Lead the architecture, prototyping, and design for manufacture of the NIRA system, including smart buoys and subsea sondes.
  • Manage production and build deep relationships with manufacturing partners in Shenzhen through regular on-site visits and quality control.
  • Conduct sea trials in extreme locations, from remote islands to Mediterranean villages, while representing the company at major global climate summits like COP.

Who this is a fit for

  • Proven expertise in marine, maritime, or nautical hardware design is an absolute requirement for this role.
  • Extensive experience taking complex physical products from early-stage prototypes through to full-scale manufacturing and production cycles.
  • A hands-on leader comfortable with high travel (20%) and the founding nature of building both the product and the team simultaneously.

Why this role is remarkable

  • True hardware ownership with creative latitude on a product that already has proven market demand and high-level customers like heads of state.
  • Join an elite technical team including a Chief Science Officer with a global research reputation from Oxford and an incoming CTO from the MIT faculty.
  • Substantial financial upside with 1% equity on day one, growing to 3% at the next round—projected to be worth over £1m.
