As a Robotic Software Engineer at Paddington Robotics Limited, you will own core subsystems end-to-end, moving between high-level autonomy and low-level embedded control. You will write production C++ and Python for physical robots deployed in chaotic, real-world environments, working alongside an elite team from Amazon, InstaDeep, and top-tier UK universities.
Robotic Software Engineer at Paddington Robotics Limited
Join Paddington Robotics Limited, a London-based startup founded by a Magic Pony co-founder, as they build robots for the real world. This is a rare opportunity for a generalist Robotics Software Engineer to own core subsystems end-to-end, moving between high-level autonomy and low-level embedded control. You'll work with a world-class team from Amazon and InstaDeep, shipping production C++ and Python that powers physical hardware deployed in chaotic environments. If you want to move beyond simulation and build technology that tackles manual labor challenges today, this is your chance to make a massive impact with a hungry, hardware-first team.

Role overview
Paddington Robotics Limited is an applied research company focused on solving real-world data challenges for embodied AI operating in human spaces, with an initial emphasis on applications in supermarkets. The company is systematically tackling the hard problems for real-world robotics whilst developing advanced AI to understand our physical world.
Backed by 7percent Ventures, Octopus Ventures.
What you will do
- Take end-to-end ownership of a key robotics subsystem, including specification, implementation, testing, and maintenance of code running on real hardware.
- Develop and optimize algorithms across various domains such as SLAM, navigation, computer vision, and high-performance computing using C++ and Python.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and spend time on customer sites to understand real-world requirements and iterate on hardware-software integration.
Who this is a fit for
- Proven expertise in Python and C/C++ with a strong track record of shipping software that interacts with physical sensors, actuators, and hardware.
- Hands-on experience in robotics, specifically with microcontrollers, image processing, CUDA, or SLAM, and a Masters degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- A pragmatic, low-ego problem solver who thrives in dynamic, multi-disciplinary environments and is comfortable taking projects from concept to completion.
Why this role is remarkable
- Join a team led by a Magic Pony co-founder (acquired by Twitter) and composed of elite engineers from Amazon, InstaDeep, Imperial, UCL, and Cambridge.
- Work on physical robots that are already shipping and being deployed at customer sites, tackling the messy “edge cases” of reality rather than staying in simulation.
- Enjoy high ownership in a scrappy, 15-person startup where you influence everything from motion planning and SLAM to firmware and sensor fusion.
