Senior Software Engineer at CTGT, Inc.

Join a Stanford-born team building the deterministic governance layer that allows the Fortune 500 to deploy AI with confidence. Backed by $7M from Gradient Ventures and General Catalyst, this elite 10-person squad has built a Policy Engine that outperforms frontier models at a fraction of the cost. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will own the architectural decisions for high-performance systems where auditability and reliability are non-negotiable. If you thrive on solving hard distributed systems problems and want real ownership in a high-stakes AI environment, this is your next move.

About this role

Role overview

You will own the architectural evolution of a deterministic governance layer for generative AI. Born from Stanford research, this platform enables Fortune 500 institutions to deploy LLMs with auditability and performance. You will design core services and abstractions that handle concurrent load while ensuring correctness across high-stakes enterprise environments.

About the company

Despite massive investment in commercial AI, organizations often find that demonstrated value is elusive, primarily due to the non-deterministic risk inherent to generative models. CTGT is the deterministic governance layer that enables the most important global institutions to deploy AI workflows with confidence.

Born out of Stanford University research, we provide the control plane that makes it possible. A lightweight, model-agnostic system that enforces policy, prevents drift, and produces auditable decisions in real time. When benchmarked on HaluEval, the CTGT Policy Engine (paired with GPT-120B OSS) outperformed frontier models (Gemini 3 Pro Preview, Claude 4.5 Opus and 4.5 Sonnet) at drastically lower compute cost.

While we sit on the edge of AI research, CTGT brings frontier intelligence into real-world environments. We apply cutting-edge theory directly in production to make large language models more reliable, controllable, and performant in practice.

Our mission is to bring models to the level of performance and accountability required by the Fortune 500. By bridging the gap between LLM capabilities and domain-specific requirements, we unlock the true potential of generative AI to solve the most pressing problems in our world today.

What you'll do

What you will do

  • Design and implement core services and internal APIs, making critical decisions on system decomposition, state management, and communication protocols.
  • Balance complex tradeoffs across accuracy, consistency, availability, and latency to ensure the Policy Engine remains fast and auditable under growing load.
  • Develop across the full stack—from data models to product surfaces—while managing infrastructure across various cloud providers and customer VPCs.

Who you are

Who this is a fit for

  • Proven experience building and scaling non-trivial distributed systems with a deep understanding of how early architectural choices compound over time.
  • Highly proficient in the fundamentals of software engineering with a stack including Python, Rust, and Node/TypeScript, plus experience with Postgres and vector databases.
  • Strong technical judgment and the ability to defend design opinions while remaining pragmatic about shipping high-stakes code to production environments.

Why this role

Why this role is remarkable

  • Work at the frontier of mechanistic interpretability, building a model-agnostic control plane that outperforms GPT-4 and Claude 4.5 on HaluEval benchmarks at a fraction of the compute cost.
  • Join an elite 10-person team backed by industry legends like François Chollet and top-tier VCs including Google's Gradient Ventures and General Catalyst.
  • Influence the system trajectory with real architectural ownership, moving beyond simple feature work to define how global institutions safely interact with non-deterministic models.
