As a Senior Software Engineer at CTGT, Inc., you will own the architectural evolution of a high-performance governance platform. You’ll design core services, manage distributed systems tradeoffs, and work across the stack to ensure AI workflows are correct, fast, and auditable for Fortune 500 clients in high-stakes industries like finance and healthcare.
Senior Software Engineer at CTGT, Inc.
Join CTGT, Inc. in San Francisco to build the deterministic governance layer for enterprise AI. Backed by Google’s Gradient Ventures, General Catalyst, and Y Combinator, we’re providing the control plane that makes frontier models reliable for Fortune 500 institutions. As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll have total architectural ownership over a high-performance system that outperforms frontier models in accuracy and cost. This is a unique opportunity to apply mechanistic interpretability at scale, working alongside a world-class team to solve the most pressing challenges in AI safety and performance.

Role overview
Despite massive investment in commercial AI, organizations often find that demonstrated value is elusive, primarily due to the non-deterministic risk inherent to generative models. CTGT is the deterministic governance layer that enables the most important global institutions to deploy AI workflows with confidence.
Born out of Stanford University research, we provide the control plane that makes it possible. A lightweight, model-agnostic system that enforces policy, prevents drift, and produces auditable decisions in real time. When benchmarked on HaluEval, the CTGT Policy Engine (paired with GPT-120B OSS) outperformed frontier models (Gemini 3 Pro Preview, Claude 4.5 Opus and 4.5 Sonnet) at drastically lower compute cost.
While we sit on the edge of AI research, CTGT brings frontier intelligence into real-world environments. We apply cutting-edge theory directly in production to make large language models more reliable, controllable, and performant in practice.
Our mission is to bring models to the level of performance and accountability required by the Fortune 500. By bridging the gap between LLM capabilities and domain-specific requirements, we unlock the true potential of generative AI to solve the most pressing problems in our world today.
What you will do
- Design and build core services that determine how the CTGT, Inc. platform decomposes and manages state under concurrent enterprise load.
- Architect internal APIs and abstractions that balance critical tradeoffs across accuracy, consistency, availability, and low-latency performance.
- Develop end-to-end solutions from data models to product surfaces, ensuring the Policy Engine stays reliable as the platform expands into new environments.
Who this is a fit for
- Deep experience building non-trivial distributed systems with a proven track record of making architectural choices that scale and age well in production.
- Full-stack proficiency across Python, Rust, or TypeScript, with a strong grasp of the engineering fundamentals required to build complex systems correctly the first time.
- Strong technical opinions on software design and the ability to navigate complex tradeoffs between research-level AI capabilities and production-ready engineering requirements.
Why this role is remarkable
- True Architectural Ownership: You aren't just shipping features; you're making foundational decisions about system decomposition, state management, and long-term trajectory that define the core platform.
- Elite Backing and Traction: Backed by Gradient Ventures and YC, CTGT, Inc. is already deployed in Fortune 500 environments with a Policy Engine that outperforms frontier models at lower compute costs.
- Frontier Engineering: Work at the intersection of mechanistic interpretability and production-grade software, building mission-critical systems where deterministic performance and auditability are non-negotiable requirements for global institutions.
