Software Engineer at Fiddle

Fiddle is building a next-generation IDE for taste-makers that pairs production codebases with an infinite canvas, and we are looking for a product-first Software Engineer to join our founding team in San Francisco to own architecture for canvas virtualization and high-performance rendering. With a salary range of $150k-$250k+, this is a unique chance to define a new category of creative tooling alongside an elite team from Razorpay and Zepto in a culture that believes taste is the only moat.

Role overview

Join a small founding team in San Francisco as a Software Engineer owning frontend architecture. You will build high-performance canvas virtualization and component systems that allow designers to work directly with production code. This is a hands-on role at the intersection of creative tools and engineering where interface is the product.

Fiddle is a software tool that lets product and design teams work directly with their production codebase on an infinite canvas, enabling designers to iterate rapidly, explore real components in context, and collaborate more fluidly with engineers and teammates.[13] It is positioned as a modern design environment where code is the primary design material, allowing users to inspect, manipulate, and visualize live code interfaces instead of relying solely on static mockups.[13] The platform focuses on bridging the gap between design and engineering by giving designers a way to prototype and refine experiences using the same code that runs in production, improving fidelity, handoff, and team alignment.[13]

Our team includes folks who have built evals at Grok, MMO games, guest lectured at Stanford and were listed by Adobe as a top 10 designer globally.

What you will do

  • Architect the core product interface and implement complex virtualization to support an infinite canvas with seamless scaling and high-performance rendering.
  • Develop sophisticated component systems that pull production code into the editor, enabling designers and engineers to collaborate within a single environment.
  • Build robust branching and version control features to ensure that users can prototype rapidly and ship experiences straight to production safely.

Who this is a fit for

  • Possesses deep frontend craft with expert-level knowledge of React, Vite, and Tailwind, and a history of building complex, performant, and interactive UIs.
  • Demonstrates a product-first mindset and “founding energy,” ideally with previous experience as a founder or at an early-stage, high-growth startup.
  • Values intense debate and feedback as a means to improve the product and has a track record of shipping high-quality creative or technical tools.

Why this role is remarkable

  • Join an elite founding team including a designer-founder and lead engineers formerly of Razorpay and Zepto to build a category-defining tool.
  • Work in a high-density, in-person environment in San Francisco where “taste is the only moat” and craft is prioritized above all else.
  • Own the core architecture of a product that replaces painful handoffs and static mockups with an infinite canvas paired directly with production code.
