Retail Learning & Development Lead at Cubitts

Cubitts is looking for a Retail Learning & Development Lead to fundamentally change the quality of their retail organisation. This isn't about managing PowerPoints; it's about being on the shop floor, coaching managers into leaders, and building a modern retail academy from scratch for a craft-obsessed British eyewear brand. With 18 stores and a serious design reputation, Cubitts offers you the chance to own the retail capability brief end-to-end. If you have a track record of transforming retail performance through people and want to move the needle on NPS and conversion in a lean, high-growth environment, this is your blank canvas.

Role overview

You will own the retail capability strategy for Cubitts, moving beyond generic training to build a modern retail academy from scratch. Spending most of your time in-store, you’ll observe teams, coach managers, and translate the brand’s craft-led identity into a consistently brilliant customer experience that drives measurable commercial impact and raises standards.

Cubitts is an independent spectacle maker founded in King’s Cross, London, in 2013, dedicated to modernising the three‑century‑old spectacles industry by combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design and technology. The company designs and manufactures high-quality spectacles and sunglasses intended to outlast their wearers, using carefully selected materials such as premium acetate, stainless steel, rolled gold, titanium and horn. Cubitts offers a full optical service including eye examinations, fitting, adjustments, repairs, made‑to‑measure and bespoke frames, and promotes a circular approach with services and repairs for life to reduce waste and extend product longevity. With physical stores in the UK and internationally and online sales via cubitts.com, Cubitts positions itself as “the modern spectacle maker,” aiming to democratise fit, challenge disposable fashion culture, and transform how people choose, own and care for their eyewear.

What you will do

  • Spend significant time on the shop floor to diagnose performance gaps, observe customer interactions, and provide immediate, high-impact coaching to retail teams.
  • Build and scale a modern retail academy encompassing induction, product knowledge, and service behaviours to ensure consistent standards across the entire store estate.
  • Collaborate with store managers to develop their leadership skills and transform mediocre sales performance into exceptional, brand-aligned customer outcomes.

Who this is a fit for

  • Proven track record of transforming retail or hospitality performance through people development rather than just delivering administration-heavy or generic training programs.
  • Exceptional facilitator and communicator with the presence and credibility to challenge and inspire experienced retail teams and senior leadership alike.
  • Commercially minded professional who can demonstrate how training interventions have directly improved NPS, conversion rates, and overall team performance in a premium environment.

Why this role is remarkable

  • Take full ownership of retail standards for a beloved brand, building a bespoke learning architecture from a blank page instead of maintaining a corporate machine.
  • Directly influence the growth of a design-led company with 18 locations, reporting to the Senior People Manager with high visibility to senior leadership.
  • Bridge the gap between craft and commerce, turning a high-end eyewear brand into a global gold standard for retail service and people development.
