Founding Operator at Valteros

Location
Oxford, United Kingdom
Compensation
£50k-£100k + Equity

Valteros is seeking a Founding Operator to join their Oxford-based AI neolab. Backed by a £2M pre-seed and preparing for a major 2027 deep-tech round, Valteros is building Large Behavioural Models (LBMs) to simulate societal-scale responses for government and defense.

As the CEO's right hand, you'll own everything from hiring and security clearance to investor relations and commercial pilots. This is a rare chance to move beyond a supporting 'associate' role and truly run the operations of a cutting-edge research company in the heart of Oxford's innovation ecosystem.

Role overview

You will partner directly with the CEO to lead company operations, managing everything from commercial contracts and finance to hiring and security certifications. This is a high-ownership, senior role where you will build the operational foundations for a research-led company serving government clients, eventually scaling into the Head of Operations position.

About Valteros

Defence Tech · 5–10+ employees

Valteros is a London-based defence startup protecting democracies from information warfare, one of the defining security threats of the decade.

NATO has recognised cognitive security as an emerging domain of conflict, and artificial intelligence and online polarisation are making it harder to counter every year. Our solution: we build multi-agents modelling platforms to simulate the impact of these threats.

We closed a £2M pre-seed round in June.

What you will do

  • Manage the end-to-end hiring pipeline, from outbound sourcing to onboarding the founding engineering and research teams.
  • Lead the preparation for the February 2027 deep-tech funding round, including structuring the data room and developing investor materials.
  • Oversee complex commercial and regulatory operations, including security clearance administration (BPSS/SC) and negotiating data-rights clauses in government pilot contracts.

Who this is a fit for

  • Has 3-8 years of experience running operations in an early-stage startup or high-ownership setting, with a proven track record of building functions from scratch.
  • Demonstrates commercial credibility and technical fluency, comfortable navigating conversations with ministry buyers, investors, and legal counsel.
  • Is eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC), typically requiring a clean background and five years of checkable residency history in the United Kingdom.

Why this role is remarkable

  • Work at the frontier of AI research in a “neolab” environment, moving beyond simple language models to complex Large Behavioural Models for societal simulation.
  • Transition from a supporting associate role to full operational ownership, with a clear trajectory to become Head of Operations as the company scales.
  • Relocation support is available to join a high-intensity, five-days-a-week founding team at the prestigious ARC Oxford campus.
