Role overview

As the first scientific hire at Phanes Neurotechnology, you will build the research function from scratch. You will design rigorous, pre-registered studies that prioritize truth over marketing, analyze complex physiological time series, and establish critical clinical partnerships. This role is for a methodological purist ready to define the scientific foundation of neurotechnology.

Medical Technology1-10 employees

Phanes Neurotechnology is a London-based medical device company building tools for the nervous system, organised around three things: sensing it, acting through it, and restoring what has been lost.

What you will do

  • Design and execute pre-registered research studies with fixed endpoints to ensure scientific rigor and absolute institutional honesty in findings.
  • Analyze physiological time series and EEG data, identifying failure modes and reporting results with high methodological integrity to regulators and peers.
  • Architect and manage the company’s clinical partner relationships, serving as the primary scientific bridge to neurologists and intensive care units.

Who this is a fit for

  • Possesses deep expertise in analyzing physiological time series and the ability to design studies that can withstand rigorous regulatory and academic scrutiny.
  • Demonstrates the communication skills necessary to engage consultant intensivists as peers and write distinctively for both academic publications and regulatory bodies.
  • Brings a background in clinical neurophysiology or EEG, with experience navigating quality systems and generating evidence for complex medical device regulations.

Why this role is remarkable

  • Build a research function from zero as a founding team member, shaping the entire evidence base for a sophisticated multi-product neurotech platform.
  • Work for a company that values “null results” as a mark of research integrity, prioritizing neuro-ethics and scientific honesty over marketing hype.
  • Drive impact across high-stakes clinical targets including spinal cord injury, ALS, and refractory epilepsy using cutting-edge closed-loop neuromodulation technology.
