Join Diffractive Labs as a Junior Lab Technician to accelerate materials discovery through closed-loop AI experimentation. You will operate high-end instrumentation, including XRD and SEM, to synthesize and characterize new alloys. Working alongside world-class researchers, you’ll help build a next-generation laboratory from the ground up to solve critical global supply-chain challenges.

Diffractive Labs is building an AI-driven platform for materials discovery. We pair frontier AI with a purpose-built, high-throughput lab to run discovery as a closed loop: the AI proposes candidate materials, the lab synthesizes and tests them, and the results flow back to sharpen the next round of predictions. Our team brings together some of the most cited scientists in the world, along with researchers from Isomorphic Labs, Google DeepMind, Meta FAIR, Oxford, and Cambridge amongst others.

What you will do

  • Operate a suite of advanced instruments including thin film deposition systems, high-vacuum hardware, XRD, and SEM for material characterization.
  • Execute synthesis and characterization experiments, managing the end-to-end flow of results back to the AI model for iterative learning.
  • Maintain laboratory operations by drafting SOPs, managing inventory, and ensuring safety protocols are followed in a high-throughput environment.

  • Holds a degree in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, or a related Engineering field with strong practical lab exposure.
  • Demonstrates a diligent, curious, and careful mindset, with a deep interest in building autonomous systems for scientific discovery.
  • Possesses familiarity with high-vacuum systems or characterization tools like SEM/XRD, though a hunger to learn is the primary requirement.
