Chief of Staff at Cascade

Are you a trained architect or engineer looking to transition your AEC expertise into the startup world? Cascade is seeking a Chief of Staff who deeply understands how firms like Gensler win work and wants to build the operational systems that scale a modern technology platform. This is not a typical generalist MBA role; we need a hands-on builder who can automate workflows, drive strategic business development, and operate without a predefined playbook. If you have a background in civil or structural engineering and are ready to apply your technical knowledge to high-level operations, this is your chance to join a high-energy team and define the future of the built environment in New York.

Role overview

Cascade is seeking a Chief of Staff with deep domain expertise in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction (AEC) to drive business operations and strategic growth. This is a high-impact, hands-on role where you will bridge the gap between technical AEC firms and modern startup operations, building the systems that scale our business.

Software

Cascade (a16z Speedrun) is an AI orchestration layer for how the physical world gets built.

Our clients are the architects, engineers, and builders behind LaGuardia, JFK, Penn Station, nuclear reactors, data centers, and Ritz-Carltons and Four Seasons around the world. We help them find and win their next multi-million dollar project.

What you will do

  • Design and implement internal operations, managing everything from complex spreadsheet modeling to setting up sophisticated workflow automations.
  • Support business development and sales efforts by leveraging your deep understanding of how architecture and engineering firms win and execute work.
  • Act as a strategic partner to the leadership team, operating without much structure to solve critical bottlenecks and scale the organization.

Who this is a fit for

  • Possesses a formal training and professional background in architecture, civil engineering, structural engineering, or construction management.
  • Demonstrates proven experience in business development, operations, or sales within an established AEC firm or a high-growth startup environment.
  • Is a practical, hands-on operator who is comfortable building automations and working directly in spreadsheets to create organizational structure.

Why this role is remarkable

  • Unique opportunity to transition from traditional AEC firms into a high-leverage startup leadership role where your industry knowledge is the core competitive advantage.
  • Directly influence the operations and business development strategy of a company modernizing the software stack for the built environment.
  • Work in a high-energy, low-ego environment with the autonomy to build internal systems and automations from the ground up.
