Role overview
You will lead the engineering efforts at LightWork AI, architecting scalable backend systems and event-driven microservices. You’ll be the primary builder of complex features while setting the technical bar for agentic AI development. Working closely with the Head of Engineering, you will drive delivery across the stack, ensuring performant and secure systems.

Designed for the UK’s property industry, LightWork AI delivers enhanced capacity, reduced admin costs and zero missed communications for property management & lettings agencies; giving tenants the confidence that their homes are safe, compliant and their needs are always met.
What you will do
- Architect and build scalable backend APIs and microservices using NestJS to support real-time operational workflows and voice agent interactions.
- Lead a small team of engineers through high-quality code reviews, technical strategy decisions, and accountable delivery of complex product features.
- Design and maintain robust data pipelines and event-driven architectures using Google Cloud, Kubernetes, Postgres, MongoDB, and Qdrant vector databases.
Who this is a fit for
- Possesses 5–8+ years of hands-on software engineering experience with deep expertise in Node.js and NestJS within a fast-paced startup environment.
- Demonstrates a proven track record of building with LLMs and agentic pipelines, understanding exactly how these systems scale and break in production.
- Combines strong leadership skills with a “builder first” mentality, capable of making critical technical calls independently while managing and mentoring other engineers.
