Network Software Engineer at Gentle Weapons

Location
Mesa, United States
Compensation
Not Disclosed

Gentle Weapons is building the infrastructure that lets robotics teams ship AI to fielded edge hardware. As a Network Software Engineer, you will own Poolnet, a secure mesh network designed for the world's most difficult environments.

Backed by Antler and led by an elite founder from Mysten Labs and Meta, this is a rare chance to join a founding team at the intersection of defense, autonomy, and systems engineering. If you excel at Rust, Linux networking, and building resilient P2P systems, join us in Mesa to build the network defense autonomy runs on.

Role overview

You will build Poolnet, an encrypted, self-forming mesh network that enables autonomy fleets to communicate reliably across radio, LTE, or satellite links. Using systems-level Rust on Linux edge devices, you will design secure tunnels, handle peer discovery, and ensure persistent routing through network partitions and backhaul outages for fielded hardware.

About Gentle Weapons

Gentle Weapons is an American technology and software infrastructure company building systems for defense autonomy and unmanned systems. Its platform helps robotics and autonomy teams deploy, manage, update, and operate AI workloads on edge devices in challenging environments. The company’s platform includes a hardened Linux operating system, private mesh networking for disconnected or degraded environments, and fleet-wide software and model deployment tools.

Open roles at Gentle Weapons

What you will do

  • Develop an encrypted, self-forming mesh network using hybrid X25519 and ML-KEM-768 key exchange for secure, high-stakes communication.
  • Implement systems-level networking logic in Rust on Linux edge devices, focusing on tun/tap, UDP, peer discovery, and NAT traversal.
  • Design and maintain resilient routing protocols that handle network partitions and backhaul outages to support telemetry and software updates.

Who this is a fit for

  • A hypergeneralist with deep experience in systems-level Rust and Linux systems programming, particularly involving mesh, overlay, or P2P networking.
  • Proven ability to work with low-level network primitives like tun/tap and UDP, with a strong grasp of applied cryptography and protocol security.
  • Self-directed engineer capable of owning a product end-to-end and navigating the complexities of fielded edge hardware in robotics or defense.

Why this role is remarkable

  • Build the critical communication layer for autonomous robotics and defense systems, ensuring fleet connectivity in the most challenging and degraded network environments.
  • Work under a high-pedigree founder with experience productionizing zkLogin at Mysten Labs and building privacy infrastructure at Meta, backed by Antler.
  • Join as a founding team member with significant equity and the autonomy to own a core product end-to-end, from architectural design to fielded deployment.
