As the first Forward Deployed Engineer, you will bridge the gap between product and production. You’ll design agent behaviors, build evaluation harnesses for “Frank” (our AI worker), and deploy systems on-site at US factories. Working with messy real-world data, you will automate the complex manual processes currently holding back world-class manufacturers.
Forward Deployed Engineer at Forgepoint
Forgepoint is rebuilding America's manufacturing backbone with AI workers that automate complex back-office operations. Backed by a16z and founders from Brex and Xwing, they're looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer to take their AI agents from product to production on factory floors across the USA. Role overview
We’re building the AI workforce for American manufacturing. These are businesses that make the physical things our economy runs on — and they’re stuck on systems from the ‘90s with no one building for them. We are. We’re in NYC, backed by a16z, and are on track to cross 7 figures in revenue after launching 7 months ago. We just closed $9.5m in funding to accelerate this even more. Our team is 6 people, every one of us is a builder, and we’re just getting started.
What you will do
- Design and build agent behaviors and tool-use pipelines using TypeScript and LLM APIs to handle complex, real-world manufacturing inputs like dirty PDFs.
- Collaborate with Deployment Strategists to map customer quoting and purchasing workflows into technical configurations, ensuring reliable end-to-end execution.
- Build robust evaluation harnesses and guardrails to ensure AI reliability while identifying product gaps directly from the field to influence the core product roadmap.
Who this is a fit for
- 2+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong command of TypeScript (React and NodeJS) and PostgreSQL database management.
- Proven experience in customer-facing technical roles such as FDE, Solutions Engineering, or Technical PM, ideally within industrial or ERP environments.
- Deep fluency with LLM APIs, prompting strategies, and evaluation frameworks for non-deterministic software, comfortable working onsite in NYC and traveling to customers.
Why this role is remarkable
- Backed by a16z Speedrun and elite angels from Brex, Xwing, and Betterment, led by founders with deep scaling experience from Brex and Xwing.
- Direct impact on revitalizing US manufacturing by replacing decades-old manual workflows with sophisticated, non-deterministic AI agents in high-stakes environments.
- High-ownership 0→1 role where you’ll travel to shop floors across the country, seeing the immediate physical impact of the code you deploy.
